Asia 10 Heading for 1bn Smartphones by 2015

Smartphones will soon account for 33 per cent of all active mobile devices throughout the Asia 10 countries (Australia, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, S. Korea, Thailand and Vietnam), according to a new whitepaper from mobile ad network adsmobi, based on research conducted by mobile research firm, mobileSQUARED. The research concludes that the collective mobile market across the Asia10 markets will surpass the 1bn billion smartphone landmark by 2015.

“In 2012, the continued rise in smartphones is encouraging a faster-than-expected adoption of mobile internet and app usage across the Asia10 countries”, notes mobileSQUARED chief analyst, Nick Lane. “Companies like adsmobi are providing the platform that is enabling agencies and brands to develop mobile rich campaigns reaching almost 1bn people across the region. This will drive mobile advertising spend across the Asia10 region from $3.12bn in 2012, to $3.94bn next year.”
In response to the predicted rise in smartphone use across in APAC, adsmobi has appointed Malcom Wong as head of sales development, “in order to offer quality inventory specifically geared towards APAC agency partners”.
