Asus Unveils the PadFone 2, a Tablet in Disguise

Weve talked about phablets – the half-smartphone half-tablet hybrid devices – a few times before. But, with the unveiling of the PadFone 2, Asus has taken that combination to the next level.

Like the original PadFone, the device is an 4.7″ Android handset, which slots into a docking station which also happens to be a functioning 10.1″ tablet.

The hybrid device runs on Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich), but can be upgraded to 4.1 (Jelly Bean). Its powered by a 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 quad-core processor, with 2GB of RAM.

Asus says the UK can expect the PadFone 2 to launching at the beginning of 2013.
