Mobile solutions company Somo has teamed with Audi UK to develop a series of groundbreaking experiences at this years Goodwood Festival of Speed that take advantage of the latest in AR technology.
Audi will be taking advantage of Europes leading motor event to showcase its range to racing fans and car fanatics, and has teamed with Somo to create ways to engage with fans, both at the event and with those participating remotely through social media.
Using the Oculus Rift, visitors will be able to immerse themselves in the interior of an Audi R8 or RS 6 driven around the Silverstone circuit by three times winner of Le Mans, Allan McNish, racing against competitors.
One Audi fan will be chosen through an Audi VIP competition on Twitter and have the opportunity to stream their experience of the day through a Google Glass, fielding questions, carrying our tasks and responding to comments from the Audi UK community on Twitter using the Glass and a Samsung Gear 2 smartwatch.
In addition, drivers who take part in the Quattro off-road area will have their key statistics recorded by an on-board iPad, using the devices internal gyroscope and accelerometer. Each lap will be scored, and the winner of each day will be presented with a special prize by Audi.
“Were really excited about some of the technology on show at this years Festival of Speed,” said Hugh Fletcher, national digital manager at Audi. “With Vorsprung durch Technik at the core of the Audi brand, and through some cutting edge digital products like Google Glass and Oculus Rift, we want to give our fans and owners the best experience possible, whether theyre at the Festival or whether theyre following from home.”
