iPhone users unlock their devices on average 80 times a day – and 89 per cent of users with a Touch ID-compatible handset have set up fingerprint detection and use it to unlock their device.
These figure arent third-party estimates, but come directly from Apple, according to Creative Strategies Ben Bajarin, who describes a recent security deep dive briefing with Apple executives in a post on Techpinions.
The figures were being used to illustrate Apples approach of “balancing security with ease of use”, according to Bajarin, and show how impractical an entirely security-focused system would be for users.
Security and privacy seem to be increasingly becoming a selling point for Apple – something thats been apparent in everything from Tim Cooks statements against the collection of user data to the companys recent battles with the FBI over encryption backdoors.
