The average number of monthly app downloads per person has dropped over 20 per cent in the past year, reports show.
Research carried out by business consultancy Deloitte shows that the average number of downloads dropped from 2.32 in 2013 to 1.82 for 2014. In addition, the percentage of mobile users who never download apps increased from below 20 per cent in 2013 to 31 per cent this year.
Paul Lee, an analyst at Deloitte, suggests that much of this growth is due to users who have already downloaded any apps they require, and dont feel inclined to find replacements or seek out new apps.
While the number of average number of downloads has dropped, the overall size of the app market hasnt decreased, suggesting a rise in the number of casual users who use fewer apps.
Recent figures from Nielsen suggested that there is a limit on how many apps users are willing to engage with in any one month, but that time spent using these apps is increasing every year.
