Bandsintown Launches on Android

Bandsintown, the concert-tracking iPhone and Facebook app, has launched on Android. The free app enables users to track their favourite artists, discover concerts from new artists that match their tastes, and RSVP to shows, all from their mobile device.

“We’ve been very happy with Bandsintown’s performance on Facebook and the iPhone and are excited to bring it to Android devices,” says CEO Julien Mitelberg. “Android growth has been rapid, with over 300m devices in the market worldwide, and we’re thrilled that this audience can now tap into our service. The goal is to make sure that no one ever misses a concert from their favourite band, and this expansion is a big step toward achieving that.”

Upon installation, Bandsintown scans a user’s music library and Facebook Likes to automatically populate their Tracked Artists page. The app can also pull data from last.fm and Pandora for more accurate results. Users can then see when their favourite bands are coming to town in a variety of ways, including the Concert Cloud, which graphically emphasizes shows they might be more interested in, and the Tonight tab, which lets users browse recommended shows by date. Once they find a concert to attend, they can RSVP directly from the app, purchase tickets, and share the event with their friends.
