Bango Offers Advice on Monetizing Mobile Apps

Mobile billing and analytics firm Bango has published a whitepaper offering advice to mobile app developers on how to make money from their apps.

Noting that 80 per cent of the approximately 180,000 apps available for mobile phones are free of charge, the whitepaper runs through the different ways a developer can monetize a mobile app, from in-app advertising, to charging for the app, to the ‘freemium’ approach, where an app is given away free, with the option for the user to pay to unlock more functionality, such as additional levels within a game for example.

The document discussed platform fragmentation, the issues around achieving visibility within app stores, and the need for independent analytics to see how their app is being used. It also notes that with web browser capabilities continuing to improve, developing a website to replace the need for an app is increasingly becoming more appealing for developers.

There’s more information about the whitepaper in a Bango blog post here. And you can download the document here.
