BBC Launches Online-exclusive Show to Educate Kids About Online Safety

608CBBC, the Beebs childrens channel, has launched an online-exclusive comedy-drama series, Dixi, focused on issues of online privacy and safety.

The show centres around the titular fictitious social network, and a girls efforts to find out who hacked her Dixi page.

The series will be distributed in the form of 30 video blogs, posted twice daily – before and after school – for three weeks starting 24 February. Therell also be supporting content, including a mock version of the Dixi network with characters from the show sending one another messages and videos addressing the safety issues raised in the series.

“It’s important to raise awareness about safety online and Dixi does this in an engaging, educational and entertaining way,” said CBBC controller Cheryl Taylor. “To kick off, we’re releasing the Dixi website and a song to coincide with Safer Internet Day on 11 February. Titled IRL, the song highlights that everything you do online can have consequences in real life, a message that is central to the show.”
