BBC Launches Weather Apps

The BBC has launched Android and iOS app for its BBC Weather service.

The BBC Weather app displays the current weather conditions and temperature, as well as UV, pollen count, humidity and wind speed info. It also features a 48-hour detailed forecast and more general five-day forecast, which will eventually be extended to 10 days to match the website.

The app automatically uses location data to provide weather info for the users current whereabouts, and stores the 10 most recent locations for quick access.

Functionality is pared down to the bare minimum, leaving the app to focus on smoothly presenting the vital info, which it does well. Theres also an accompanying widget, displaying the current conditions and a five-day forecast, which can be attached to the homescreen.

“The introduction of these apps, as I mentioned, is just the start of our improvements to BBC Weather on your mobile devices,” said Liz Howell, head of BBC Weather. “We have listened to your feedback and we have focused this first release on the most highly used features from our website for you to enjoy during some of the summers biggest events. We will of course continue to improve the apps, as well as our mobile website, based on what you tell us.”
