BBC Updates Mobile Homepage

The BBC has launched its updated mobile homepage in public Beta. The new site has – based on user feedback – pushed weather to the top of the page, and features integrated location-based services, simplified customisation, and quick links to the rest of the BBCs online services.

According to the broadcaster, 14 per cent of its visitors come to the BBC homepage via a mobile device, and it expects that number to grow.

“The Homepages role is to bring together all the different areas of the BBC and showcase the absolute best of BBC content and, by offering customisation, let you decide which content you would like to see on your BBC Homepage” says Eleni Sharp, product manager for the mobile homepage. “People use mobile devices in a very different way to a traditional computer at home, so we had a design challenge to ensure the content was quickly scannable, but meaningful.”
