The Android and iOS app – which we tested on launch, and found to be a slickly streamlined experience – has passed the 1m download mark in the two weeks since it launched. Thats helped give BBC Weathers overall mobile usage a major boost.
The weekend after launch saw a 47 per cent increase in mobile access compared to previous weekends, and the BBC is reporting that more than 25 per cent of people are now accessing our services via mobile, compared to 20 per cent pre-launch.
Daily usage of the app has roughly followed the mobile usage patterns weve seen elsewhere, peaking between 6-9am (28 requests a second), and around 6pm (25 requests a second) – though, due to the subject matter, usage drops off a little earlier than other services, from 10pm.
The app will be receiving updates based on user feedback, the BBC says, including adding a resizable widget for Android and improving location-based services.
