Best Western Introduces AR Posters to Hotel Lobbies

ZappedBest Western has rolled out AR-enabled posters promoting the upcoming Disney Channel movie Zapped in the lobbies of more than 2,200 hotels in North America.

Visitors can scan the life-size displays of the movies star, Zendaya, using the Best Western Alive! app to trigger an overlaid animation. Users can then take a photo with Zendeya, and enter a Zweepstakes competition.

The hotel chain ran a similar AR campaign with Disney Channel last summer, for Teen Beach Movie, which drove more than 48,000 downloads of the app last summer.

“There’s a natural connection between a movie like Zapped that families watch together and summer vacation, which is the time when families come together to hit the road,” said Dorothy Dowling, Best Westerns SVP of marketing and sales. “We’re excited to once again be partnering with Disney Channel to bring Zapped to life for our guests through a unique augmented reality experience and sweepstakes.”

The Alive! app was created in partnership with Aurasma.
