Paid-for sat-nav apps on Android are most popular on devices with larger screens, according to CoPilot Live. The Samsung Galaxy S2 represents 21 per cent of the total users of the premium sat-nav app, while the HTC Desire coming in second with 7.5 per cent, and the Samsung Galaxy being used by 7 per cent.
Tablets are also beginning to prove popular as navigation devices, with 10 per cent of CoPilot Live users running the app on an Android Tablet device.
“With Google Maps, many people thought that there wouldn’t be much of a market for paid-for sat-nav apps on Android devices,” says David Quin, marketing director at CoPilot Live. “However, we’re seeing monthly app sales volumes continue to grow, showing that Android users are increasingly looking for solutions which offer more than the free software they have already. It also shows a growing willingness for Android users to pay for apps with genuinely useful features.”
The most popular version of Android is 2.3.3, Gingerbread, representing 57 per cent of users – while the most recent version, Ice Cream Sandwich, only currently accounts for 5 per cent.
