Book Puts mCommerce Under the Spotlight

Freelance journalist Paul Skeldon has released a book titled mCommerce, that looks at the potential of mobile commerce to revolutionise not just shopping, but the way we live our lives.

The book charts the rapid growth of mCommerce, and looks at the current devices and platforms in use. It also looks at the different approaches being used, including vouchers, offers, loyalty apps and  GPS location marketing. It also included case studies of businesses that have successfully embraced mobile commerce, and offers practical advice to get readers own businesses fully mobilised.

“Texting was the first pocket revolution, but mobile phones connected to the internet have taken our favourite gadgets to a whole new dimension, making the world accessible from the palm of your hand,” says Skeldon.

“The mobile phone  – through text, picture messaging and social networking – means that not only can you have conversations and relationships with your friends and loved ones through it, but any business can start to talk to its customers and potential customers,” says Skeldon. “In its simplest form, a retailer can send customers a text message telling them what’s new, or about their bargain of the moment. As they get cleverer, they might experiment with special offer coupons or even create their own bespoke mobile phone application.

“But here’s the beauty: this is one of those rare areas where the small guys can compete with the big guys on equal terms; because it’s simple, the cost is relatively low, and our love affairs with our phones means you are pretty much guaranteed an audience.”
