British Museum Launches Pompeii App

The British Museum has launched an app to support its Life and Death in Pompeii and Herculaneum exhibition, promoting the event and helping supplement the museums income.

Developed by Apadmi, the app is targeted both at visitors to the exhibition, and those who cant make it. To this end, it recreates the experience – with high-resolution images and information on 250 of the exhibitions key artefacts, along with audio commentaries from experts in Roman history for selected items – and also provides exclusive content, including video clips and interactive features, which isnt available in the museum.

All of this content can be navigated through interactive maps of the region or a timeline of the eruption.

“We are delighted to invite tablet and smartphone users all over the world to explore the content of our Life and Death in Pompeii and Herculaneum exhibition,”said Paul Roberts, the exhibitions curator. “Good clear explanations and beautiful, detailed images of the remarkable objects offer an exciting opportunity to investigate the stories of these cities in the palm of your hand.”

The app is available on iPhone and Android devices at the cost of £1.99, and for £3.99 on iPad.
