The British Red Cross has teamed up with TikTok to launch an educational channel focused on helping people learn first aid skills.
The ‘First Aid Toolkit’ channel features popular TikTok doctors – including Dr Alex, Dr Julie, Dr Emeka, and Dr Karan Raj – starring in short, fun videos where they teach viewers basic, yet vital, first aid.
“We’re thrilled to be launching the First Aid Toolkit which makes learning vital first aid skills easier than ever,” said Georgie Hart, Head of Community Education at the British Red Cross. “Anyone can do first aid – you dont need any special equipment or training – but learning a few key skills and having the confidence to carry them out could save a life.
“As we all continue to spend more time at home during lockdown, we’re urging the nation to learn a set of, potentially lifesaving, new skills. Simply head to the British Red Cross First Aid Toolkit.”
The new British Red Cross channel is part of the #LearnOnTikTok programme launched by TikTok last year. The app invested €13M across Europe to work with public figures, media publishers, educational institutions, and professional experts to develop educational content.
TikTok has already worked with the British Red Cross on multiple occasions in the past year. In 2020, the charity joined TikTok’s #SpreadFactsNotFear campaign to help stop the spread of misinformation around COVID-19. The pair then went on to collaborate on the viral #IsolationGames with Team GB. And, in April, the British Red Cross got its own donate sticker.
“We are proud to announce British Red Cross as our latest #LearnOnTikTok partner. The First Aid Toolkit will bring life-saving skills to our TikTok community, helping us to stay safe at home during this current lockdown period,” said Rich Waterworth, General Manager at TikTok.
“Since we launched #LearnOnTikTok, our community has evolved into a natural home for learning and education content, from bitesize cooking tutorials to sign language demos and now first aid. TikTok is no longer a platform you go to just for entertainment, its a place to learn something new, acquire new skills, and maybe even save a life.”
