Buy Straight from Ads Using Barclays Pingit

Users of Barclays Pingit app will soon be able to make purchases by scanning QR codes on adverts using a new Buyit feature.

In an interview with Finextra, Barclays managing director of cash management, Richard Martin said that Pingit users will be buy direct from print and outdoor ads, as well as pay utility bills.

“You can scan that QR code, you can immediately be ordering the goods that pop up automatically pre-populated, your delivery details are sent straight through to the retailer, two days later the goods are delivered,” he said. “You dont have to go home and go online to purchase the items later, you can chose to purchase right there and then.”

The Android, iOS and BlackBerry app can already be used by customers of any bank to make peer-to-peer payments by linking their bank details to their mobile number. In the first 100 days since it launched in February last year, it saw more than 800,000 downloads.

The service works on Barclays Faster Payment Scheme, so payments are almost instantaneous and they are free.
