Mobile media company BuzzCity has launched a software development kit (SDK) for BlackBerry. The SDK will enable BlackBerry developers to publish ads on BuzzCity’s network within BlackBerry apps, earning revenue on a cost-per-click basis. BuzzCity’s network currently handles 4.5bn ads each month.
In addition, developers working with BuzzCity will be able to make their apps available through BuzzCity’s range of mobile media properties, including mobile games portal, Djuzz, and mobile social network, myGamma. The two properties have a combined audience of 5m users.
The SDK for BlackBerry contains a function that enables developers to accurately determine the country and operator of the BlackBerry user for targeting purposes. It also enables developers to insert ads messages at natural breaks in game play or app usage, ensuring a better user experience. Apps will be able to serve both text and graphical ad banners.
UberTwitter, a Twitter application for BlackBerry, is one of the first apps to use the SDK and has been installed in more than 1.5m phones across the world. The app was recently used to deliver a campaign promoting a badminton tournament in Indonesia. Over a period of four days, he campaign achieved 9.1m advertising impressions and a clickthrough rate of almost 1 per cent.
“Developers in key markets such as S. Africa, Indonesia and Malaysia now have the opportunity to create locally relevant ad-supported applications for BlackBerry,” says BuzzCity CEO, KF Lai. There is a real opportunity here for progressive developers, given the increasing global interest that we’re seeing in this type of advertising, particularly in the US, UK S. Africa, India, Indonesia and Malaysia.”
