buzzd, a location-based city guide and social network for mobile phones, has revealed that it has amassed a database of over 1.2 million venues across the US, including reviews, address and other features after launching just four months ago.
Now, says buzzd, consumers in major US metropolitan areas can find out whats going on around them using trusted listings, alongside real-time user generated content (UGC). In fact, the company says, member-inputted venues are fast becoming a growing segment of the buzzd service. Currently one in 10 venues on the buzzd network have been added by the buzzd community itself and, thanks to a new user submission tool, additions are verified by buzzd before posting to avoid the duplication of venues and events.
In local entertainment, venues change their name, management, ownership and location often, so a consistently updated, crowd-sourced database is key to finding out the best events and places to enjoy, says buzzd CEO and Co-founder, Nihal Mehta.
buzzd delivers location-sensitive, premium editorial event and venue information, along with up-to-the-minute reviews and ratings from friends and other members of the buzzd community. Users can also browse and search continuously-updated event feeds, which include pricing, location and event details, as well as the first-hand ratings and reviews posted from the venue by other members.
Events and locations are available nationally and aggregated through partnerships with CitySearch, Flavorpill, TimeOut New York and Zagat, with plans to roll out more content partnerships in local markets. User-generated feedback (or buzzes) for real-time activity surrounding venues and events is also aggregated at the top of event listings throughout the platform.
buzzd says that currently, Friday is the biggest day of buzzd usage, followed by Saturday and then Thursday. The most popular cities, in order, are: New York, San Francisco, Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, and London, UK.
In addition to its partnership deals with CitySearch, Flavorpill, TimeOut New York and Zagat, buzzd has also struck deals with brands such as Jim Beam, MyOpenBar, Nokia and Bonnaroo, the worlds largest music and arts festival.
Currently, buzzd can also be accessed on-deck with Helio. The company says it will be announcing on-deck deals with other major carriers in the coming weeks. In addition to these operator deals, however, buzzd can also be accessed by any phone with WAP or SMS capabilities. buzzd notes additionally that its service is free and requires no downloads or subscriptions.
