Channel 4 has launched an iPhone application, You Booze, You Looze, which it says takes a fun approach to getting people thinking about their drinking habits as the annual festive party season gears up.
Developed by Digital Goldfish, which also developed Bloons – one of Apple's all-time top 30 games – You Booze, You Looze enables users to keep tabs on what they drink, look at the health and wealth impact of their drinking habits, and get people talking about their consumption in an informed way.
By visiting the virtual bar for every real drink bought, You Booze, You Looze calculates how much “fun” is being had on a night; how many drinks are being consumed; the type of drinks; a running total of the bar tab; and the number of calories consumed by users, their friends and colleagues. Users upload personal details to create and store individual profiles. The app allows users to build multiple profiles so they can keep tabs on friends too.
The short-term effects of drinking become starkly apparent as users are challenged to a series of You Booze, You Looze games and sobriety tests that measure co-ordination levels, concentration, balance and reaction times.
All data and sobriety test results link to Facebook Connect so users can share and compare drinking tales and stats. A Twitter stream (@boozelooze) has also been launched to support the application.
Available now on the Apple App Store for 59p, You Booze, You Looze, is the first game to be launched from Channel 4's 4iP stable and is supported by The Digital Media IP Fund, in partnership with Scottish Enterprise and the Creative Scotland Innovation Fund.
