Cardmobili Provides Mobile Service for Portuguese Election

Portuguese voters were able to use a mobile service supplied by Cardmobili at the countrys recent general election.

The service allowed voters to access their voter ID and polling station details via a mobile phone. Over 10,000 people used the Cardmobili service and received a digital card on their mobile phones, complete with the information they needed on voting day.

Voters had to register on a dedicated microsite, typing in their national ID number and date of birth. The system then generated a unique digital card and delivered it to the users mobile phone.

Cardmobili created the service after thousands of voters were unable to cast their votes in the January presidential elections, because a central website became overloaded and crashed.

Anyone that signed up to Cardmobili for the digital voting card remains subscribed to the service, so they can use it in future for loyalty and membership cards, as well as receive coupons and voucher offers on their phone.
