Castrol, one of the official sponsors of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, has launched the Castrol Football iPhone app. The app includes the ‘Castrol Predictor’ which draws on the results of every international match in the last 10 years, and then “simulates the tournament more than 100,000 times” (how does that work then – Ed), to tell fans how their team will fare in their group, who they’ll face in the knockout stages; and what their chances of success are against any given rival, and, ultimately, of winning the tournament.
The app also includes the Castrol Index, which tracks every pass, tackle and move from each player, which is then analysed by a team of “Castrol Performance Analysts” and converted into a Castrol Index score out of 10 for every player in the tournament. There’s a similar tool for analysing your team’s chances of scoring any penalty it might be awarded.
The app is available in English, Spanish, German, Chinese, Arabic and Brazilian Portuguese, and will be updated regularly throughout the tournament. Users will also receive expert analysis from Castrols Ambassadors, including Arsène Wenger, Marcel Desailly and Alan Shearer.
