Celltick, creator of Celltick Start, the mobile phone start screen interface, has launched the Start Exchange, an admissions-based ecosystem for developers of mobile sites, apps and widgets. Once accepted into the ecosystem, developers can design and develop ‘starters’ – mini-versions of apps and services designed for rapid consumption on the phone’s start/home screen. Start is used as the default interface for Android devices by over 40 leading manufacturers and operators around the world, with over 1m Start-equipped new devices being launched each month. The average Start user interacts with Start more than 80 times a day.
As users configure their Start interface, they can search for and add starters that enhance their ability to rapidly access applications and services on the starts screen of their phone. For example, a Start user may search for “news sites” and add a starter for a particular mobile news site, which displays the mobile site home page inside.
Developers accepted into Start Exchange will be able to leverage simple APIs and integration for rapid starter development and deployment. In addition, the Celltick team will support developers through the process, including idea, development and integration.
“Mobile users are always looking for the right applications and services to be able to access quickly and conveniently, in the course of their daily lives,” said Celltick VP of marketing & business development, Ramgopal Vidyanand. “With Start Exchange, we are creating a huge opportunity for developers to reach a massive audience of Android users worldwide.”
