Chairish Inc., a San-Francisco based online marketplace for luxury and antique home furnishings and interior design, has acquired Dering Hall, an online discovery platform for contemporary furniture and design services. The acquisition will make Chairish the largest online platform for high-end furnishings in the US.

Chairish Inc., the parent-company of Chairish and Decaso, plans to integrate Dering Hall’s more contemporary and modern furnishings to Charish’s already antique and vintage furniture collection, now totaling more than 450,000 pieces. Although Dering Hall has an online marketplace, they do not yet have a mobile app, which is now a priority considering furniture is the fastest growing eCommerce category in the US.

“As with all serious eCommerce companies today, mobile’s a huge part of our focus. It’s great for shopping, it helps with communication, it’s a significant part of the customer experience and journey. Dering Hall actually doesn’t have a mobile experience, so one of the first things we want to do is fix that,” said Gregg Brockway, CEO and co-founder of Chairish Inc.

Since being founded in 2013, Chairish has already started using unique technology in their mobile app to minimize the apprehension that comes with buying furniture online. The company aims to bring the same useful technology to Chairish and Dering Hall’s combined growing monthly audience of over 2.5m design aficionados.

“In our mobile app, we were one of the first companies to launch augmented reality in a home furnishings space. It’s really an incredibly useful feature. One of the big questions with furniture is will it fit with the rest of the things I have in a room, size-wise but also visually. So being able to actually see that really helps people get over the concern about pulling the trigger and making an online purchase,” said Brockway.
