Charity Turns to Text for Record-breaking Attempt

SignHealth, the healthcare charity for deaf people, is organising an unusual world record-breaking attempt in order to raise awareness for its cause, and using mobile to promote it.

The Deafinitely Darts event, to be held on 21 October 2010, will see world darts superstar Phil Taylor leading the charity’s supporters attempt to secure the all-time record for the largest number of people playing darts during one evening.

The record attempt will be promoted via text messaging, with anyone  interested in taking part invited to text DARTS to mkodo’s shortcode, 83311 in order to get further information via a response text. The SMS channel may also be used to prompt people to join in the event on the day and to encourage them to register for future news and donation opportunities from the charity.

“We have been working with SignHealth for a number of years in the day to day provision of their service for deaf people,” says mkodo business development manager, Mark Gibson. “We are now delighted to be able to assist them with this key event. The mobile channel is the best channel to engage a wide audience and to prompt event participation that is time critical.”

The attempt is backed by the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC), the sport’s leading professional body, which has adopted SignHealth as its official charity. There’s more information about the event here.
