Cisco to Buy BroadHop

Cisco has announced plans to buy BroadHop, a policy control and service management provider for carriers, which it says is a ‘critical piece’ of technology for its portfolio as global IP traffic continues to increase. BroadHop will be integrated into Cisco’s Service Provider Mobility Group to enable mobile operators to control, monetise and personalise the types of service they offer.

End-users will be able to purchase customised premium service packages, like on-demand streaming, with access to a higher level of customer service and premium bandwidth to ensure the best possible experience.

Hilton Romanski, VP head of corporate business development, said that the BroadHop acquisition will: “enable our service provider partners to succeed across mobile, fixed and converged networks, while allowing us to continue to lead and define important transitions in networking.”

BroadHop is already a key wi-fi partner for Cisco. Terms of the agreement have not yet been announced.
