Cointreau is giving away $75,000 to celebrate 75 years of the Margarita

Cocktail lovers across the US can grab a share of a $75000 pot merely by pledging to make their margaritas with a shot of Cointreau.

The orange liqueur company has set up the Cointreau Margarita Pledge to celebrate 75 years since the Original Margarita recipe was created by socialite Margarita Sames.

Drinkers that sign up will be selected at random to win a portion of the prize money. The cash will be paid out on Cinco de Mayo – the May 5 celebration that commemorates the anniversary of Mexicos victory over the French in 1862.

Nicolas Beckers, President and CEO at Rémy Cointreau America, said: “75 years ago, Margarita Sames created The Original Margarita recipe with Cointreau, tequila, and lime. Cointreau is an essential ingredient in The Margarita and at the heart of more than 500 classic cocktails. We’re excited to celebrate this milestone while encouraging Margarita-lovers to make their favourite cocktail as it was intended, with Cointreau.”
