Huawei Unwraps 6.1″ Ascend Mate

As CES rolls into its second day, it will come as no surprise that new mobile devices are being announced left, right and centre.

By and large, theyve been slight twists on a familiar formula, but Huaweis Ascend Mate made us sit up and pay attention for one reason: the device boasts a 6.1″ screen.

Phablet hybrid are increasingly common – with the most popular being Samsungs 5.5″ Galaxy Note II – but this is the biggest weve seen yet, raising the question where exactly the boundaries lie, when compared to 7″ tablets.

For anyone in the industry worrying about device fragmentation and the ever-widening range of screen sizes, a new form factor might not be entirely welcome.

The Ascend Mate runs on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean), and is powered by Huaweis Hi-Silicon 1.5 GHz quad-core processor, with rear- and front-facing cameras and a 4050 mAh battery.
