Deaf Charity Turns to Text

The British Deaf Association (BDA) has teamed up with mobile enabler WIN to launch the charitys first text donation campaign. The month-long initiative, which is live now, aims to raise funds for the charity, and increase awareness of its work, particularly around British Sign Language Day which took place on 18 March.
The campaign mechanic is simple. Donors text the keyword BSL to 84222, and a 1 donation is added to their mobile bill, plus their standard network text rate. Additionally, the BDA is using the receipt text to communicate a short message about its work. WIN is providing the entire infrastructure and delivery of the campaign and has waived its set-up fees.
The BDA campaigns nationally on behalf of the deaf, with a particular emphasis currently upon lobbying for British Sign Language (BSL) to be part of the national curriculum. This cause, along with details of the text donation service, is being advertised in national and regional press, libraries, the Sign Matters magazine, and on a variety of websites throughout March.
