For the first time, Jelly Bean has become the most commonly used version of Android, according to Googles latest Android version usage stats, based on the two week period to 8 July. Together, versions 4.1 and 4.2 of the OS together account for 37.9 per cent of all Android users, with 4.1 making up the vast majority of this share (32.3 per cent).
That means that the remaining 62.1 per cent are using older versions of Android, with Gingerbread (v2.3) – which was initially released back in 2010 – coming in a close second at 34.1 per cent. Most of the remaining users are on the more recent Ice Cream Sandwich (v4.0), which holds a 23.3 per cent share.
Google also revealed how Android devices compare by screen resolution – see the chart below.
Small (>426×320) | 10.0 per cent |
Normal (>470×320) | 79.9 per cent |
Large (>640×480) | 5.7 per cent |
Xlarge (>960×720) | 4.4 per cent |
