Mobile media service provider Didiom has announced the beta launch of what it says is the first mobile application to integrate a mobile music place-shifting service and a pay-per-download, full-track service that offers over 1 million MP3 songs.
The free, all-in-one Didiom application allows music fans to wirelessly access their home computers iTunes library from over 200 mobile devices, including BlackBerry and Windows Mobile phones. Didiom says the beta period will give users an opportunity to test the service and to provide valuable feedback, which will help shape its over-the-air service and new user interface.
Didiom has signed licensing deals with online independent music specialist CD Baby, classical music producer Naxos, Saavn, the digital distributor of South Asian content, as well as a number of independent music partners. It says these licensing deals mark a major milestone in its mission of bringing a comprehensive selection of music to todays generation of wireless consumers.
Weve developed a simple and fun way to mobilize music and to discover new music from around the world while on the go, says Didiom Founder and CEO, Ran Assaf. More and more music fans are tired of wasting valuable time sideloading music from their computer to their phone or iPod. We provide them with a new type of experience that lets them not only stream music from their computer to their handset over the air, but also to discover, bid for and share music in new and exciting ways.
Didiom offers two free downloadable applications from its website. The first is a handset application that enables users to simultaneously access the Didiom Marketplace and their PC-based music library. The second is a desktop application that allows users to stream music directly to their phone.
The Didiom Marketplace enables users to shop for music directly from their phone without having to sideload through their PC. In addition, users can name their own price and download to their mobile, to their PC, or to both. The mobile download will be available to their phone, and the PC download will be available online.
Most songs cost between $0.89 (0.57) for a single download, and $1.39 for a dual download. Most albums are between $9.99 (single) and $12.99 (dual download). Users will need to set up a Didiom account, but they do not need to provide their credit card information. When they are ready to make purchases, they pay per download or prepay and receive a cash bonus.
