Dilithium Announces Streaming Video Support for iPad

Dilithium, which specializes in high-quality multimedia delivery over mobile and broadband networks, has announced support for live and on-demand video streaming for the iPad using the Dilithium Content Adapter (DCA). The move will enable service and content providers to provide their customers with access to live or on-demand video content, including Adobe Flash video, through the standard iPad Safari browser.

Dilithium says the DCA is unique in its ability to deliver live video and VOD to all iPads and iPhones (OS2 and OS3), using their built-in Safari browser. It supports all popular video formats, and performs on-the-fly and on-demand media formatting and codec adaptation. iPad users do not need to install any special applications to stream video to their device, which may be connected over wireless networks.

“The iPad has a larger screen, which requires special adaptation and bitrate configurations to meet customers viewing expectations in varying wireless network conditions,” says Marwan Jabri, Founder and CTO of Dilithium Networks. “As with the iPhone, the iPad does not support Adobe Flash video. The Dilithium DCA iPad solution solves these challenges with its patented technology, which has already been proven in a major large scale worldwide deployment that solved many of these challenges for the iPhone.”

Dilithiums patented technologies and architecture allow on-the-fly smart media adaptation, as well as smart caching and content finger-printing. The solution supports the widest range of mobile phones and terminal devices through RTSP, HTTP, and HTTP Progressive Download. Dilithium says the DCA iPad solution is easily integrated into operator and content provider frameworks and workflows with its PHP-based API. The DCA has an advanced built-in caching feature, allowing significant reduction in unnecessary adaptation, while also providing support for ad-insertion.
