Doritos puts cassette players in its bags to promote Guardians of the Galaxy 2

Marvel Studios has teamed up with PepsiCo snack brand Doritos to promote its upcoming film, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2, through the time-honoured marketing channel of the crisp packet.

A limited number of custom Doritos bags will be sold featuring a music player, pre-loaded with films soundtrack, built into the packaging.

Its styled as a retro cassette player, to match with the movies “Awesome Mix” tape, and the ‘60s and ‘70s pop songs on the soundtrack, including Fleetwood Mac and Electric Light Orchestra.

The bags will be sold on Amazon from 28 April – the same day the soundtrack is released – ahead of the films 5 May US premiere.

Its part of a broader partnership between the brands, which will also include Guardians of the Galaxy branding on regular bags of Doritos, and pop-up recording booths in New York and Los Angeles, which will give people the chance to win prizes including the music player bags by singing songs from the soundtrack.

“The soundtrack to the first Guardians of the Galaxy film was a hit and became immensely popular with music fans, so we wanted to create a unique way for fans to experience the second installment,” said Ryan Matiyow, senior director of marketing at Doritos parent brand, Frito Lay North America. “This collaboration across entertainment and music will give fans a new and different way to experience both the soundtrack and Doritos snacks.”
