dotMobi, the company behind dev.mobi, the cross-platform mobile developer forum, has announced a preview release of DeviceAtlas version 2.0. With this release, the award-winning DeviceAtlas moves from a read-only database to a read-write version, with the introduction of automated phone capability tests.
The thousands of developers who are already using the DeviceAtlas database, available at deviceatlas.com, will now be able to perform real-time testing of their mobile phones by visiting deviceatlas.mobi on their phones web browser. Every time someone runs a test via deviceatlas.mobi, the results will be published in the DeviceAtlas database.
DeviceAtlas 2.0 gives the mobile web developer community the ability to test devices in a highly structured manner, with test results being captured immediately into the database, says dotMobis VP of Advanced Services and Applications, Paul Nerger. Structured tests produce the highest quality of device attribute information, and this produces ongoing improvements in the quality of the DeviceAtlas data.
Visiting the test site at deviceatlas.mobi, users can provide user agent details, and add new device models and data directly into DeviceAtlas. This last feature marks DeviceAtlas growth into a true community-driven product, dotMobi says.
