eBay and PayPal Hosting Charity Hack Weekend

On 3-4 November, eBay and PayPal are holding the Charity Hack Weekend, an annual event which invites UK developers to come up with new methods, services and apps to help charities promote their causes and collect donations.

Teams will compete against the clock to complete a selection of tasks, and present their concepts to a panel of expert judges from the companies.

“Mobile is becoming more and more important for charities as a means to engage new donors and raise funds,” said Olivier Ropars, eBays senior director for mobile. “Take the London marathon for example. One of the challenges this year’s Charity Hack participants could be given is to use GPS software to create a platform that enables runners to receive donations for every mile of training, as well as for running the race itself. It’s this kind of software, as well as technologies like PayPal’s mobile payments system, that creates new ways of giving.”

If youre a developer with an idea for a charitable mobile platform, you can register for the Charity Hack here.
