eBay has opened a bricks and mortar Christmas Boutique store on Dean Street, London, which uses QR codes to enable shoppers to buy products using their smartphones. The store will be open for five days, from 1-5 December, a period which bookends eBays busiest trading day, Super Sunday.
The store contains a “curated selection” of around 200 items with attached QR codes which, when scanned using the eBay app, forward customers to the relevant page on their mobile site, where they can then buy the product as normal.
Speaking exclusively to Mobile Marketing, eBays head of consumer PR strategy & planning, Julia Hutton-Potts said: “The Boutique is really designed to shine a spotlight on mobile shopping, which we see as a growth market. Its bringing to life the reality that lines are blurring between online and offline shopping. Consumers are increasingly savvy and want to shop where, and from whom, they choose.”
