eBay to Open Pop-Up Shop in London

eBay has announced its first UK pop-up store, which will appear in Londons Dean Street from 1-5 December.

The shop, dubbed the Christmas Boutique, is claimed to be the UKs first “QR code shopping emporium”. The shop will feature a selection of items from leading brands, each with a discount of up to 70 per cent and an accompanying QR code.

Visitors simply scan the QR code on their smartphone to be taken to the relevant payment screen, where they can buy the item. There will be no tills and no products will be available to take away from the store.

The shop will also feature tablet computers that allow shoppers to shop on the full eBay mobile site.

The stores 1-5 December week is anticipated to be the busiest online shopping weekend this year – eBay predicts 5.8m shoppers will log on to eBay.co.uk to shop on Sunday 4 December – a growth of 500,000 on last year. Sales are forecast to peak at over 30 gifts every second, nearly double the 16 gifts per second bought last year via online and mobile platforms while up to 120 gifts will be bought via a smartphone every minute, says eBay.
