EE has launched Recordings To Go, a feature that enables subscribers to record TV programmes and then transfer them to be watched on a mobile device.

Its an extension of the EE TV freeview service launched by the operator in 2014, which is built around a TV set-top box but can stream a selection of content to mobile devices within the home.

With Recordings to Go, content from any of the 70-something free-to-view UK TV channels available through EE TV can be permanently downloaded onto devices, where it will be stored until the user chooses to remove it. This transfer can only be done in the home, via wi-fi, but users can pick programmes to record remotely using the EE TV mobile app.

“EE should be applauded for this latest move,” Paolo Pescatore, director of multiplay and media at CCS Insight, commented on the news. “Despite being acquired by BT, the company continues to bring new innovative features to EE TV. The latest update will resonate with users as it extends the EE TV experience outside of the home.

“There is no denying that it is going to be a big year for video services in the UK. Vodafone will launch its own TV service, Sky is rolling out a new revamped Now TV box as well as launching UHD and, of course online providers are adding new features like HDR and much more.”
