EE has announced another sponsorship deal, this time of Glastonbury Festival, a relationship inherited from Orange.
The UK’s first 4G network is now Glastos official communications and technology partner and has re-created the Glastonbury free iOS and Android app for 2013. But Glasto-goers in the office are less than enamoured with the app, which isn’t anything great to behold.
As with the previous Orange app, users can check out artists and stages over the weekend, select their own schedule and take a look at the venue map. They can now customise the map icons to show important places and see their current location via GPS. Clicking on any stage within the map brings up ‘now and next’ info of the artists that are playing. A lot of the pages require you to leave the app and go to the Glasto website, so EE better be providing some awesome wi-fi!
What sounds most impressive is the link to the BBCs live streams of performances for those unable to attend the event, which go live on 28 June. This could also be handy for people who want to see their favourite band properly having spent the whole gig filming it on their phone… There will be seven live feeds taken from the Glastonbury website but this again will require some pretty bad ass internet connectivity. Luckily EE customers are assured that they will be able to ‘stream content seamlessly’ thanks to on-site infrastructure installed for the ‘UK’s first 4G-enabled festival’.
Those in need of a phone charge – so that will be EVERYONE – can also nip to EE’s free ‘Recharge’ tents regardless of which network they’re with. And they can also have a free try of EEs 4G while they wait. Mwa ha ha.
