UK telco EE has unveiled plans to recruit 500 apprentices by 2015, as part of a commitment to boosting the local economy in the areas where it operates and help get young people into work.
The company will offer 15-month apprenticeships in its Customer and Retail teams across the UK, combining on-the-job training with a fortnightly day studying at college. This will result in a qualification and – according to EE, for the majority of apprentices – full-time employment in the company.
“We recognise the importance of providing a platform for Britain’s young people to develop professionally, as well as contributing towards the local economy and community in the areas that we operate,” said EE chief customer officer Jackie O’Leary. “With 1m unemployed 16-24 year olds in the UK, big businesses should play a central role in providing employment opportunities and training up tomorrow’s talent.”
EE says it will also be launching a graduate scheme in the coming weeks.
