Facebook has decided to merge Messenger Day and Facebook Stories into what will simply be known as ‘Stories’ across both platforms.
Users that share a photo or video through Facebook’s Stories will also see the content appear on Messenger and, vice versa, those that share a photo or video through Messenger will see it appear on Facebook also.
“We heard from people that they would often share on Facebook or Messenger, save the photo or video, and then post to the other,” said Messenger on Facebook. “Now, its quicker and easier to capture and share moments as they happen with the people you care about most.”
Despite the cross-platform posting, the cameras in both will remain different – with Facebook’s focusing on AR masks and effects and Messenger’s on captions and stylised text.
Facebook introduced Messenger Day back in March, before bringing Stories to its main app just a few weeks later. Since then, Stories hasn’t exactly had the levels of success that Instagram’s has.
When it introduced brought Stories to Facebook, Facebook also introduced Facebook Direct. This feature – which the social network has decided to scrap with its decision to merge Days and Stories – enabled users to photos and videos directly with their friends and family for a limited period of time.
