Facebook Expands Live with Insights, Permalinks, Cross-posting and More

Facebook LiveFacebook has rolled out a series of updates for its Live video streaming, which it says were implemented after “listening to broadcasters’ feedback” as part of an effort to “give publishers more control, customization, and flexibility over their broadcasts”.

These updates include the introduction of video metrics, available to any profiles with 5,000 or more followers. Facebook describes these as ‘lightweight insights’ aimed at public figures using the platform, rather than brands, which are due to roll out in the coming weeks. The metrics include number of views, minutes viewed and engagement figures, both for individual videos and aggregated week, month and two-month periods.

Facebook is also adding support for a permalink, in the format ‘facebook.com/pagename/videos’, which can be used to link directly to any currently live broadcasts from that page, as well as a library of their past video content. Other new features include the ability to cross-post Live videos across multiple pages after broadcast, to pin comments to the bottom of a live broadcast, and for pages to mark users as Live contributors, enabling them to broadcast without needing full admin rights.

Finally, the platform has made the jump from mobile to desktop, with support for web browsers.
