Facebook Introduces Live Audio

Facebook Live AudioAs Facebook continues to strive to make everything live – after launching live video last year and live 360° video earlier this month – it has now launched live audio.

People using Android devices will be able to listen to audio broadcasts even if they leave the Facebook app or lock their phones. On the other hand, iOS will only be able to browse on Facebook while listening.

Facebook’s blog says: “From interviews to book readings, we’re excited about the layer of interactivity that Live Audio brings to both the broadcaster and listener.

“Just as with a live video on Facebook, listeners can discover live audio content in News Feed, ask questions and leave reactions in real time during the broadcast, and easily share with their friends.”

For the time being, Facebook is testing live audio with partners including BBC World Service, LBC, Harper Collins, and authors Adam Grant and Brit Bennett. Facebook hopes to make the format more widely available in 2017.

This latest new addition coincides with Facebook’s introduction of a group video chat feature.
