Facebook has made changes to the way users see what news is trending. As part of a redesign to its Trending section, the social network has begun testing a feature that shows the top Trending stories prominently on the News Feed on mobile, as well as making changes to its Trending results page.
A small selection of Facebook users will soon see the top three Trending stories high up on their News Feeds. This unit can be clicked on to see the full list of Trending topics. Facebook says the have been made because of difficulties faced by users in finding the Trending section.
“While most people will not see Trending in their News Feed as part of this small test, we hope that it will help us learn how to make Trending as useful and informative for people as possible,” said Facebook in a post.
In addition to the test, the internet giant is going to introduce a way for users to more easily discover other publications covering a story in Trending.
The feature, which will only be available on iPhone in the US for the time being, suggests related posts to users in the form of a story carousel that can be swiped through. The stories featured are the most popular ones about the topic on Facebook.
