Facebook Opens Up its First Accountless Product

Facebook has made its Messenger app available to users without a Facebook account, using just their name and phone number.

In lieu of Facebook friends, the app enables the user to message their mobile contacts. The seemingly small change is actually a rather significant change to how Messenger functions, making it more in line with WhatsApps offering. Thats articularly interesting given Facebook are currently rumoured to be eyeing the OTT messaging company up for acquisition.

The roll out will begin with an update to the Android app, with iOS to follow at an unspecified point in the future.
