Facebook has added The Trevor Project to its list of trained crisis and mental health support volunteers available on Messenger this US Mental Health Awareness Month, as part of its continued efforts to help those that may suffering with mental health issues.
The Trevor Project focuses on crisis intervention and suicide prevention for LGBTQ youth. The organisation’s service will roll out over the ‘next few months’, joining the Crisis Text Line, the National Eating Disorder Association, the Partnership for Drug-Free Kids, and the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline.
“We’ve been committed to mental health support for many years, and this is one of the ways we’re working to build a safer and more supportive community on Facebook,” said Antigone Davis, global head of safety at Facebook, in a post. “As we continue to invest in new tools and resources, we hope Facebook can help provide support to more people over time.”
Facebook, which has offered suicide prevention tools for more than 10 years, has worked with organisations such as Save.org, the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, Forefront and Crisis Text Line, as well as those who have personally contemplated or attempted suicide, to develop its suicide prevention tools.
