Facebook has penned a deal with Eleven Sports that will see at least one match per week from both La Liga and Serie A streamed live and free on the sports provider’s UK Facebook page.

Live coverage will begin with Girona hosting Valladolid in La Liga on 17 August before Cristiano Ronaldo makes his competitive debut for Juventus against Chievo the following day. Other teams featured over the first two weekends of Eleven Sports action include Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, and Inter Milan.

Eleven Sports will also publish in-game highlights and clips, weekly review shows, and other socially-led content.

“Were excited to build on our strong relationship with Eleven Sports by becoming the free-to-air home in the UK and Ireland for a selection of its live broadcasts this season,” said Rhys Beer, Facebook Live sports programming lead, EMEA. “This partnership reflects our commitment to helping broadcasters reach new audiences, build their brands and deliver a great viewing experience for sports fans on Facebook.”

In addition to the Spanish and Italian football action, Eleven Sports will also show the first two rounds of the 2018 PGA Championship on 9 and 10 August in the UK and Ireland.

“In all our global markets we want to be where the fans are,” said Danny Menken, group managing director at Eleven Sports. “We aim to serve fan communities and develop interaction and engagement around our content, while ensuring we are always accessible and easy to reach. Our unique free-to-air partnership with Facebook helps us to do this as part of our fresh and contemporary approach to distribution.”
