Facebook Unwraps Gifts

Facebook has introduced gifting features, enabling users to buy and send physical products to their friends. The service is called, surprisingly enough, Gifts.

Users can send a virtual card to friends timelines, or as a private message, with a preview of the gift which will then be sent to an address provided by the recipient. Available products include stuffed animals, cupcakes, and prepaid giftcards, which can be customised or exchanged for something else of equal value.

Facebook is rolling out Gifts across the globe gradually, starting in the US. Its another attempt by the social networking giant to find ways of monetising its userbase, after it struggled following its IPO in May.
