Facebook is reportedly preparing to launch its Watch video streaming service in India next year, after launching the service in the US back in August.
According to The Ken, citing people aware of the development, the service will launch in the South Asian country at some point between January and March.
The service, which is regarded as a competitor to YouTube, was introduced to a limited number of users in the US in early August – before being rolled out to all US users at the end of month and the beginning of September.
In the US, Watch is available on mobile, desktop and TV. It offers original content from media outlets such as BuzzFeed, ATTN, Disney’s ABC, Vox, A&E Networks, and live sport from Major League Baseball (MLB).
Watch in India will also house content suited to the region, as you’d expect when any streaming service launches in a country.
In the meantime, Facebook has launched an app dedicated to video creators in order to lure some of them away from YouTube to Watch. With Facebook Creator, Facebook makes it easier for users to create video and livestreams from their mobiles.
