US cinema tickets portal Fandango has launched its mobile ticketing service in the Passbook app for iOS 6. Fandango tickets are now paperless for iPhone users running iOS 6 and can be scanned from the app at 2,600 screens across the US.

Last month, Fandango revealed that mobile ticket sales for the summer of 2012 had increased 116 per cent year-on-year, with mobile purchases accounting for nearly 30 per cent of all ticket sales. Downloads of its mobile apps were also up more than 43 per cent since the same time last year, with total downloads passing 26m.

“Mobile Ticket in the new Passbook app is a great way for Fandango fans to keep their tickets in one place and quickly access them on their iPhone or iPod touch,” said Rick Butler, executive vice president and general manager of Fandango.

“Fandango moviegoers can now bypass the box office at select nationwide theaters because their Mobile Ticket in Passbook will use time and location data to automatically display their scannable movie ticket as soon as they arrive.”
